February 2023 412 Meeting for Sunday School Teachers

The aim of my meeting today is to cast a vision for Easter on April 9, 2023 and how you can help us to maximize our reach on this day.  We can do this three ways.

1.   We can maximize our reach by maximizing our space.

Past Easter Attendance

  • 2021- 332
  • 2022- 422
  • 2023- 33% increase again- 574, 15% increase- 508, 10% increase- 486

Family Day Attendance

  • Family Day attendance was 428 total, with 323 in the auditorium.

We are going to try to maximize our space by doing two identical services this Easter.

Rationale:

  1. Not including the choir seats there are 377 seats in the auditorium.  Last year with an attendance of 422, the number in the auditorium was 302 which was at 80% capacity.  The other numbers were kid (78) and overflow seating (41).
  2. If we do not, our only response to potential increase in attendance is overflow and setting out more chairs in the auditorium.
  3. Overflow seating makes it hard to connect from the church’s perspective.
  4. Overflow seating is not an ideal experience from the attender’s perspective.
  5. 2 Services communicates vision, growth, and faith.

What will this look like?- 2 Identical, Mirrored Services at 9am and 10:30am

Sunday School on this Day:

  • There will be no Adult Sunday School for this day only.
  • Children’s Ministry will look like it normally does at 9am with the same teachers and classes during the 9 o’clock hour.  10:30am will look like the 10:30am hour with Junior Churches functioning.

We are currently beginning to communicate with other volunteers to facilitate this day including:

  • Music Ministry
  • Children’s Ministry
  • Hospitality- Ushers, Welcome Center, Door Greeters, Security, etc.

2. We can maximize our reach by inspiring our people to answer the question: “Who’s your one this easter?”

On the 4 weeks leading up to Easter, have a “Who’s your one for easter?” moment during class.

  • March 12th
  • March 19th
  • March 26th
  • April 2nd.

This “Who’s Your One for Easter?” moment involves 4 steps.

  1. Define a “one”. – “A ‘one’ is someone you identify, invest in, and invite to the next right thing.”
  2. Reveal your “one”.  The Teacher gives a testimony as to who God has laid on their heart.  Look for testimonies that other people could share over the four weeks to encourage others to identify, invest, and invite.
  3. Lead them to commit to “one”. Utilize an Identify Card to write down their “one”.
  4. Pray for “one”.  Take time in class to pray for these names written down.

3.   We can maximize our reach this Easter by maximizing our follow up efforts after Easter.

You can help us maximize our follow up efforts by taking on two commitments:

  1. Commit to attending Outreach Night on April 11th at 6:30pmIt will take place from the gym.  There will be a dinner provided at 5:30pm.  There will be child- care available.
    1. Plan an activity or event for your class to help have something to invite people to as we follow up on them.
      1. Example:  Teens have an all nighter.
      1. Summer Events will be emphasized- Summer Days, Summer Nights Family Events
      1. VBS, Summer Camps etc
      1. Individual Class events

Application:

  1. For the next few moments take a moment to talk about:
    1. …Who your “one” could be.
    1. …Who could lead the “Who’s your one for Easter? Moment” in an inspiring way during class.
    1. …What your class could plan in the 2-4 weeks after Easter to aid in assimilation of new guests.
    1. Review your recent attendance reports and determine if there are any contacts that need to be made.
